New Moon Night Hike

Last week I teamed up with North West Adventure Tours for the New Moon Meteor Hike. This involved a hike from Ballinafad up the Bricklieve Mountains to the tombs at Carrowkeel which is part of the Wild Atlantic Way.

The weather was near perfect when we set out for our 5km hike guided by the wild man himself Warner. As we climbed we had beautiful views of Sligo and its surrounding against a gorgeous sunset. The climb was tough in parts but that made it all the sweeter when we reached the top.

However the weather somewhat changed once we reached the top with a cold north easterly breeze kicking in but Willie and his crew had a hot cup of tea and piece of cake ready to warm us all up.

From the top I held a talk on night photography and how to get started capturing the stars above. After that we tried to put the talk into action and started to capture some images. This provided to be a great time to see what you can and can’t capture with your camera including exposures, framing, etc.

Auriel from Seatrails also spoke about the history, mythology and even the connection with Star Wars

I could have spent hours at the summit exploring but it was getting late and cold  so we made our descent. On our way back we went down the Castlebaldwin side which is also exactly 5 km from the top.

It was an evening I thoroughly enjoyed and hope to be a part of something similar very soon.

Thanks for looking and feel free to share.
